The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Ashville Jail on a dryer that had caught fire causing smoke in the laundry basement. Correctional staff were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Ashville Fire Department and Steele Fire Department responded to the jail and ventilated the entire area. RPS Ambulance responded to the scene and (3) correctional staff members were checked for smoke inhalation. (1) correctional staff member was transported by RPS ambulance to St. Vincent-St. Clair for further treatment. No inmates were injured during this incident. The Springville Police Department also responded to the scene to assist. The jail has resumed normal operations.
