Field Training Program
Honesty, Integrity, Professionalism, Hard work, and Dedication are Sheriff Murray's core values and as such, are the values required of all who aspire to be a deputy at the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.
The Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP), is dedicated to training personnel who demonstrate competency in their skill sets and compatibility with our values. Using objective criteria in a structured and closely supervised program, probationary patrol deputies are trained and evaluated. It is designed to move new hires toward superior performance in on-the-job situations successfully, identifies compliance and/or deficiencies in work performance, document procedures, and provide a mechanism by which performance can be evaluated.
Training involves multiple weeks in the classroom and on patrol, during which participants obtain in-depth knowledge of policies and procedures, verify their knowledge and skill sets, utilize software, and acquire additional certifications. FTEP aims to produce a fully trained, competent deputy sheriff who serves our community and reflects the values of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.
