The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office would like to make the public aware of an ongoing scam happening in the county.

Criminals are posing as local law enforcement and bonding agents by phone or text to extort money or private information.

Recent scams involve requests for inmate bonds through PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo.

Money is never requested over the phone for the release of inmates or for any monitoring program.

Call the jail directly if you have questions about an inmate's bond, and please be vigilant in keeping your personal information secure at all times.
