St. Clair County Commission presents Life Saver Resolutions to Lieutenant Doss, Telecommunicator Layfield and Telecommunicator Wolfe

This morning during the St. Clair County Commission Meeting in Ashville, the St. Clair County Commission along with Chairman Stan Batemon honored Lieutenant Mike Doss, telecommunicator Lily Layfield, and telecommunicator Berkley Wolfe with resolutions for their life saving acts of service.

At 11:06 a.m. on October 25, 2025, Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a 68-year-old female who was unresponsive and not breathing. The female was in her vehicle in the parking lot of Ashville High School. Lieutenant Michael Doss was off duty and watching his son's football game at the school when someone yelled out for help. Michael and his sister Amber immediately responded and with exceptional composure began lifesaving CPR. As Michael performed chest compressions, Amber was giving rescue breaths. After a few rounds a pulse was restored and the victim was taken to the hospital. His decisive actions and lifesaving training were instrumental in reviving the victim, who is now recovering.

At 07:13 am on October 7th, telecommunicator Berkley Wolfe received a 911 call from a young female student at Springville High School stating she had a firearm with her on campus. Berkley immediately took control of the situation and demonstrated exceptional professionalism and composure. Berkley maintained a steady and compassionate tone, building trust with the student and keeping her calm while guiding her in the situation. Through steady communication and quick-thinking Berkley kept the caller safely on the phone until school administration and school resource officers arrived on the scene.

At 11:54 am on October 20th, central dispatch received a 911 call regarding 61-year-old female at a residence in Pell City in cardiac arrest. Lily responded swiftly and with exceptional composure, providing clear and calm CPR instructions to the caller at the scene.  Thanks to her guidance, the caller was able to successfully restore spontaneous breathing before first responders arrived on the scene. Lily utilized her training and lifesaving skills to help avoid a potentially tragic situation.
