The primary mission of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Support Unit is to enhance the safety of officers, citizens, and visitors by providing effective aerial support to St. Clair County and to enhance the effectiveness of federal, state and other local law enforcement units by providing airborne surveillance, observation, and reporting of criminal activity; especially in times of emergency, counter-drug operations and national defense.
The unit is comprised of highly skilled deputies, law enforcement officers from neighboring agencies, and volunteers that operate two OH-58 Kiowa helicopters that were obtained from the military surplus program.
